The thrilling sequel to The Web of Wizardry

“A richly-detailed construction of fantasy … A complex culture with a sorcerous touch upon the whole.” C.J. Cherryh

Alighting in a new land, Tyrus and Erezjan are no strangers to a life of wandering. They have travelled far and wide across the realm of Krantin, descrying regions from afar.

Now they find themselves integrated into life in a distant and eccentric new province, Couredh. Before long, it becomes obvious that they will not be able to conceal the true nature of their arrival from the locals for long…

Their true mission to track down a murderous wizard named Vraduir.

Tyrus and Erezjan have set themselves on his trail in an attempt to prevent him from wreaking more havoc and destruction upon the people of Krantin.

But they can’t do it alone…

An alliance is forged in secret between Tyrus and Erezjan and the malicious wizard’s defecting companions, Jathelle and Ilissa. They too know the doom that faces this world if they stand by and do nothing.

As they track their quarry ever northward into the cold and barren wildlands, they encounter magic like they have never seen – both of man and of the gods. Vraduir’s thirst for power has caused him to sacrifice much in order to forge and bond with the gods and call upon their power.

Now Tyrus, Erezjan, Jathelle, Ilissa and their compainions must journey toward the Death God’s Citadel, a realm at the top of the world from which no man has ever returned.

The Death God’s Citadel is a thrill-packed, beautifully written tale of magic, relationships, and what happens when man oversteps his limits.

Praise for Juanita Coulson

“Coulson works on an enormous canvas — sometimes almost overwhelming. The characters are always memorable.” Marion Zimmer Bradley

The Death God Citadel The Krantin Series Book 2 edition by Juanita Coulson Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This is truly a wonderful book. The writing and the story pull you in from the first paragraph and don't let you go until the last. I remember, years ago, sitting up in a tree. It was probably the most perfect summer day in the world. I had nothing better to do, so I read. When the book ended, I wish it hadn't. I didn't feel like going home, but I was hungry. On the walk home, images painted by Coulson's words dance around my mind. I wanted to re-read the book. I think I still have the old book somewhere. Too bad the book is out of print. I know most people will enjoy the story. I sure did.
The prequel to The Web of Wizardry, it deals with the world of Krantin in an earlier age.
As I stated on the review of the Web of Wizardry, I read this book over 40 years ago. It's a great sequel and keeps you engrossed to the very end.
I've reread this book at least several times over the years since I bought it new in 1980. Its plot involves two men, a wizard and his companion, who seek another wizard in revenge for destroying their country and enchanting the wizard's companion into becoming a were-wolf sort of creature (not always at his time of choosing). It's a relatively light read, but full of description and well written, not a fluff book. In some ways it reminds me a bit of Andre Norton's Witch World books, just to give you some idea of the flavor. If you enjoy fantasy, give this one a chance if you see it used somewhere. I think you'll find it as fun as I still do, rereading it today 21 years after I first got it.
In early high school I hadn't yet developed a social life. Lunchtime wasn't spent in the quad, but in the library. It was there I stumbled across this little treasure. At an age when I wasn't embarrassed to read a paperback fantasy novel (I still read them, I just don't let anyone see me anymore) I discovered this little treasure. Coulson's world is tenderly created, believable, visually evocative. It was how you imagined the age of chivalry before your view of the Middle Ages was dashed forever by Western Civ 101. The characters are human and obviously beloved by the author. I suggest it to anyone who remembers the joy of just reading, like you used to do in a summer book club at the library. By the way, I shared the book with this cute girl in high school and...well, my social life pretty much started after that.
I read this many years ago and wanted to read it again. She's a very good writer.
Great story. Well written. well devoloped charactors in a well developed world.
